Star Shell Reflections: Insights from 1914-1916

In anticipation of the Great War centenary, this book presents a unique viewpoint through the words and art of Jim Maultsaid, who experienced the front lines firsthand. Although an American, his Irish roots and upbringing in Donegal shaped his perspective. Joining the Young Citizen Volunteers at the war's onset, Jim, who left school at 13, showcased his natural talent for writing and drawing, often regarded as the unofficial war artist. His engaging narrative, complemented by humorous sketches, guides readers through the somber realities and the resilience found among soldiers in the trenches. These diaries reveal the genuine thoughts and untold stories of ordinary soldiers. Mai mult
