The Embodied Word by Nancy Bradley Warren

In The Embodied Word, Nancy Bradley Warren delves into female spirituality, building on her previous work, Women of God and Arms. This book addresses key themes of religion, gender, and historical context, examining how medieval spirituality transitioned into the early modern era. Warren highlights the continuities and changes that blur the lines between medieval and early modern cultures. Utilizing the philosophical insights of Stanley Cavell and Karl Morrison, she analyzes significant texts such as St. Birgitta of Sweden's Revelations, St. Catherine of Siena's Dialogue, Julian of Norwich's Showings, and works by early modern English nuns and Anna Trapnel, along with writings by Luisa de Carvajal y Mendoza.
