There are countless historical tales entrenched in popular belief that are really nothing more than warped reflections of the truth (if not flat-out lies), just as there are scientific "facts" that over the years have been proven to be more like science fiction. Both subjects are given a through sifting in this entertaining omnibus of two popular Reader's Digest books, which separate the truth from the shadows and illuminate how (and why) such falsehoods and wacky theories got passed around in the first place.
