Most people are intrigued by ghosts and stories aboutparanormal happenings, even if they do not believe them. The county has a wealth of sightings, from a terrifying black creature seen near Market Lavington to a ghostly carriage and four which may be glimpsed at midnight on New Year's Eve careering down the track to Maggots Castle, near Urchfont. The book reveals other strange hauntings and mysteries too. There is the account of a little boy who was befriended by the spirit of a small dog; a spectral funeral cortege seen at Beckhampton; a mysterious monk who brought solace to a widow at Lacock Abbey; and the terrifying ordeal endured by a couple living in a gothic house next to an old graveyard near Warminster.
